Mick McCarthy has heaped the praise on Alan Shearer, naming him the best striker he ever played against.
The former Man City and Barnsley defender came up against some legends of the game, including Gary Lineker and Roberto Baggio, but claimed Shearer was the best to ever do it in the Premier League.
McCarthy was speaking on talkSPORT’s The Final Word with Majestic, where he listed the best players he came up against.
He said: “My favourite was Alan Shearer. He did everything. He grafted, he scored goals from 30 yards, he scored tap-ins.
“He comes back and defends that near-post from corners, I never beat him there at all. Proper player.
“Gary Lineker, wonderful goalscorer but he wouldn’t put himself forward as a No. 9 battering into you and barging you around, knocking you about.
“Shearer, he could look after himself. Different class. One of the best I’ve seen.”
