Fletcher Cox, Jason Kelce Passionately Defend Nick Sirianni As Eagles Coach

The Philadelphia Eagles loss in the wild-card round ended a very disappointing season. After the team started the campaign at 10-1, the Eagles lost five of their final six games heading into the postseason, and were immediately shuttled from the playoffs in an embarrassing loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

With such a stark collapse, coach Nick Sirianni’s job has come under question as the team heads into the offseason.

However, two key Eagles veterans are standing behind their head coach. Defensive tackle Fletcher Cox couldn’t believe when he was asked about Sirianni’s job security.

“Come on, man, that ain’t even no f—ing discussion,” Cox said.

Then, after more questions, Cox explained why he believes in his head coach so much.

“The man, he’s a winner, he’s a winning head coach,” Cox said. “We don’t look at firing a man who won 10+ games two years in a row, that took this organization to three playoff appearances three years in a row.”

On the other side of the ball, well-respected center Jason Kelce also stood by Sirianni as the leader of the team.

“I love Nick. I think Nick’s a great coach, I really do,” Kelce said, “Obviously, nobody was good enough this year. I wasn’t, none of the players, none of the coaches were good enough down the stretch. That’s the reality of the business, when you’re that bad it’s a collective thing. But I’ll always have faith in Nick Sirianni.”

In Sirianni’s three seasons as head coach, the Eagles have three playoff appearances, one division title and one Super Bowl appearance. Between regular season and playoffs, Sirianni has a 36-20 record in Philadelphia.

Even if Sirianni returns, there probably will be changes to his coaching staff. The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reports the Eagles have already spoken with available coordinator and position coach candidates to gauge their interest in joining the staff.
