Tottenham missed their chance to move into the top four with Timo Werner’s shocking miss summing up a torrid night.
Spurs could’ve leapfrogged fourth-place Aston Villa on Saturday evening, but instead suffered a 3-0 defeat at Craven Cottage thanks to a Rodrigo Muniz double and Sasa Lukic.
Meanwhile, Spurs’ players didn’t quite have the same success in front of goal and Werner won’t want to watch him fluffing a huge chance up again.
A delicious cross from Brennan Johsnon went across the box for the January signing, who was arriving in what seemed like the perfect moment at the far post to fire home.
But the ex-Chelsea man somehow fired wide of the post and into the stand behind the goal, epitomising what was a day to forget for Spurs.
“Werner how have u not scored that?” one fan wrote on X.
“How have Johnson and Werner just miss 2 chances from a combined 5 yards out,” another said, referring to the other Spurs star’s earlier miss that was suspected to be offside anyway.
When asked if he was excited about the prospect of finishing in the top four despite the disappointment on the night, Ange Postecoglou: “Yeah absolutely. We’ve already been told that we are out of the race, so.
“There’s 10 games to go, plenty of football and plenty of opportunities to go and get some more growth out of this group of players and the team.”
Fulham‘s Muniz, on the other hand, is in the form of his life.
After scoring just two goals on loan at Championship Middlesbrough last term, the 22-year-old has now netted seven in as many games.
That takes his total tally for goals in all competitions up to eight this season.
The Cottagers are 12th in the table and now sit one point off west London rivals Chelsea in 11th, albeit with the Blues having two games in hand on them.
