Liverpool vs Burnley predictions

Liverpool’s Premier League title chances were dealt a blow last time out. The Reds suffered their second defeat of the season, going down 3-1 to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

It was Liverpool’s poorest performance of the campaign. They equalised on the stroke of half-time, but only because of an Arsenal defensive error. In total Liverpool managed just one shot on target all afternoon.

That result blew the title race wide open. Arsenal are now right back in the conversation, with only a two-point deficit to top spot. Manchester City are also two points behind Liverpool, who remain at the summit of the standings for now.

If Jurgen Klopp’s side are to win the league in the manager’s final season at the club, they will rely heavily on their form at Anfield.

No team in the Premier League has taken more points at home than Liverpool. No side has scored more goals either, while the Reds have conceded the fewest too.

All in all they are formidable when playing in front of their own supporters, with their last domestic defeat on familiar territory coming way back in October 2022.

Conversely, Liverpool have been pretty ordinary on the road at times. Only Manchester City have amassed more points at opposition stadiums, but Liverpool’s results on their travels have often been better than their performances.

That is an issue that will be bugging Klopp, but he will also be aware that Anfield is a huge asset for his team. That should be in evidence when Burnley come to town this weekend.

It is essential that Liverpool bounce back from last weekend’s disappointment in this match. With games against Brentford, Luton Town and Nottingham Forest to follow, Klopp will be eyeing maximum points before what looks like a seismic showdown with Manchester City on March 10.

📝 Liverpool vs Burnley betting tips

Liverpool should have too much quality for Burnley in this Premier League encounter at Anfield.

Liverpool to win to nil – Evens (bet365)

Last weekend was the first time all season that Liverpool have let in three goals in a domestic game.

Even with the concession of those strikes, Klopp’s team still have the joint-best defensive record in the division. They have also kept the most clean sheets, along with Arsenal and Everton.

Burnley will find it difficult to keep a clean sheet in this one. The Clarets have had a difficult campaign. They came from 2-0 down to salvage a draw against Fulham last time out, yet they are still seven points adrift of safety.

Only last-placed Sheffield United have scored fewer away goals than Burnley, who will have their work cut out in trying to prise open Liverpool’s backline.

Liverpool are likely to dominate the game from start to finish and Burnley will consequently spend most of the 90 minutes on the back foot.

Even without the injured Joel Matip and the suspended Ibrahima Konate, Liverpool’s defence should be able to keep the opposition attack quiet and keep a ninth clean sheet of 2023/24.

Liverpool to win both halves – 11/10 (bet365)

Burnley have had a frustrating season. They entered the bottom three after losing to Manchester City on the opening weekend and have remained there ever since.

Vincent Kompany’s charges will need to be consistently excellent if they are to finish above the dreaded dotted line. In truth, it is hard to see them surviving from here.

Games like this are particularly difficult for the Clarets, who have only picked up one point against a team currently in the top 12. In other words, Burnley have lost 13 out of 14 matches against those sides.

Liverpool won both halves in the reverse fixture, as a first-half goal from Trent Alexander-Arnold and a 90th-minute effort from Diogo Jota gave them a 2-0 win at Turf Moor.

Liverpool should triumph by an even wider margin here, while winning both halves again looks eminently achievable.

Darwin Nunez to score any time – 4/5 (bet365)

Darwin Nunez seldom has a quiet game. The Uruguay international is usually at the heart of the action and that will probably be the case again on Saturday afternoon.

Even his biggest fans would acknowledge that Nunez is not the most reliable finisher. He hit the woodwork four times in the recent 4-1 victory over Chelsea. The former Benfica man tops the Premier League charts for big chances missed with 20.

Yet even though he is not what you would call ruthless in and around the 18-yard box, Nunez makes the Liverpool attack better.

He has scored 11 goals in all competitions this season, despite not always being a guaranteed starter.

Nunez was only fit enough to appear as a second-half substitute against Arsenal, but he is in line to return to the starting XI here.

Burnley often struggle against physical forwards, so the Uruguayan should have plenty of joy this weekend.

Choose Darwin Nunez as an anytime scorer at 4/5 with bet365
