Liverpool v Sheffield United preview

Liverpool climbed to the top of the Premier League table on the weekend with a 2-1 win over Brighton at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, prior to previous league leaders Arsenal dropping points in a goalless draw at the Etihad against Manchester City.

Easter Sunday’s results mean Liverpool take a two-point lead at the top of the Premier League into the midweek round of fixtures, but Arsenal’s victory over Luton last night means the Reds head into tonight’s fixture a point behind the Gunners at the top of the table.

Sunday’s was Jurgen Klopp’s side’s first since they were dramatically knocked out of the FA Cup at Old Trafford a fortnight ago, which ended a run of eight wins and a draw in their previous nine matches.

The Reds have been formidable at their home stadium, winning 18 of their 21 matches, including nine of their last 10, in all competitions at Anfield, and remain yet to be beaten on their home patch this season.

Sheffield United make the daunting trip to Anfield tonight having gone unbeaten in consecutive league games for just the second time all season, but only both occasions the Blades gave up two-goal leads in the last 15 minutes to only return with a point.

Chris Wilder’s side were 3-1 up in the 85th minute of their match at home against Fulham on Saturday afternoon, just a fortnight after being 2-0 up at Bournemouth in the 75th minute, but couldn’t hold on to three points on each occasion, and thus remain rock bottom of the Premier League table.

The Yorkshire side make the trip to Merseyside currently sitting four points adrift at the foot of the table, and 10 points from safety, they also hold by far the worst goal difference in the league, effectively making their gap to survival 11 points.

The Blades have managed to earn just three league wins all season, only one of which has come away from home, and have won just one of their last 11 Premier League matches, a run they will need to correct if they have any chance of staying in the top flight.

Liverpool have won each of their last six matches against Sheffield United, who haven’t won a league game against the Reds in 30 years, and have just one win at Anfield since 1968.

📝 Liverpool v Sheffield United betting tips

Liverpool go into tonight’s bout as incredibly strong favourites to win the three points on offer at Anfield, and BetVictor’s pricing of Liverpool to win, over 4.5 cards and over 10.5 corners at 24/5 looks like it holds some value.
