Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham has expressed admiration for transfer guru Juni Calafat, a crucial figure within the club’s ranks.

The 20-year-old helped Los Blancos defeat Barcelona 4-1 on Sunday to win the Spanish Super Cup and get his hands on his first trophy with the club.

Bellingham, who joined Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund for £88.5million (around €103m) last summer, posed for a picture with Calafat.

He then hailed Calafat, lauding him in a post on X, formerly Twitter, by saying: “What a guy.”

The 51-year-old is Real Madrid’s chief scout and director of international football and a driving force behind the club’s biggest names.

Having joined the club in 2014, his main area of influence is South America, though his focus is also now on Europe.

He was the man behind the transfers of Federico Valverde from Penarol, Vinicius JR from Flamengo, and Rodrygo from Santos.

Calafat also monitored Eder Militao during the defender’s time at Porto and drafted in players including now-Arsenal star Martin Odegaard.

Real Madrid’s French duo Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni were also drafted in from Rennes and Monaco, respectively.

Arda Gurler is another to join Real Madrid – the 18-year-old leaving Fenerbahce in the summer in a £18m deal.

Though he is not only involved in the recruitment of promising players, he also played a role in signing Eden Hazard from Chelsea and Germany international Antonio Rudiger.

Next in line for Calafat is forward Endrick, whom the club agreed to sign at the age of 16 for €30m (£35m) in December last year.

The talented teenager will link up with his new teammates in the summer after making the move from Palmeiras.

Calafat used his powers to fend off Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Barcelona for the Brazilian’s signature.

It now remains to be seen who the transfer guru has next up his sleeve as Real Madrid look to continue dominating world football.
