Joe Joyce secures late knockout victory over Kash Ali in unconvincing comeback

Joe Joyce marked his comeback with a final round victory by stoppage against Kash Ali.

The 38-year-old, who previously held the WBO interim heavyweight title belt, took just two rounds to dispose of Ali in Birmingham on Saturday night.

Joyce enjoyed a steady, but controlled first two rounds over Ali, before upping the tempo in round three, four and five.

But tipped to put in a convincing, dominant display, the 38-year-old was unable to secure a prompt victory, instead being made to wait stamp his authority on the result.

As Ali tired, Joyce asserted his dominance in the ninth and 10th rounds, winning the bout by stoppage with just seconds remaining of the fight.

Joyce is looking to reignite his hopes of a world title shot with this victory being his first of 2024.

The Juggernaut had been unbeaten going into 2023 and was on the cusp of a title against either Tyson Fury or Oleksandr Usyk.

But instead of biding his time, Joyce took a fight with Zhilei Zhang which saw him stunned inside six rounds due to damage to his eye, before being being brutally knocked out in the rematch.

With victory secured over Ali, Joyce will be now be hoping to kick on and put in a much-improved display as he prepares to continue his road back to the top.
