Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s continual beat downs of fan favourite Cody Rhodes left one child in floods of tears, fearing her hero had ‘died’.

The heartbreakingly adorable clip surfaced on social media of the young girl being comforted after witnessing a savage beating sustained of Rhodes at the hands of the People’s Champion.

The grizzly scene – arguably barely suitable for children given the blood and expletives involved – showed Rock dragging Rhodes through the back of the Chicago arena before pummelling him in the car park.

It added a sinister layer of what had been a largely jovial build-up from The Rock towards the upcoming WrestleMania, which sees the Hollywood star team with Roman Reigns to take on Rhodes and Seth Rollins.

There was further doom for the good guys of the story on this week’s episode of Raw – Rock and the rest of The Bloodline again left their two foes laying after another attack.

It all proved too much to bear for one Rhodes fan on TikTok, who was left convinced he had well and truly been seen off by The Great One.

Sobbing into the camera, the little one is heard saying: “I want him back… Cody Rhodes. He just died!”

The tot, repeatedly reassured by an adult voice in the video that Rhodes was indeed fine and well, insisted she wanted to see Rhodes again when she next takes in a WWE show.

She added: “He is my best friend… I want to see him back when we go to wrestling.”

In reacting to the video, which appears to a reaction to the initial rain-sodden beating up of Rhodes, fans online all reacted the same way.

While almost all were initially compassionate about the youngster’s feelings, fans posted on X that such emotions showed that professional wrestling’s magic remains alive and well for those not yet able to comprehend that it’s a phenomenally athletic yet scripted form of live entertainment.

Many compared it to their own childhoods, where the likes of The Undertaker and Jake The Snake Roberts had been responsible for harming heroes like The Ultimate Warrior and Macho Man Randy Savage.

One said: “Bless her. I hope she finds out Cody is okay,” while another reflected: “Hey crying over good stories is a great childhood memory. It’s not too fun at the time but it’s fun to think about later.”

Another post read: “This is what it’s all about,” with another agreeing, added: “Heels making kids cry… ? The feeling is back!”

Another would say: “This might be the sweetest, best wrestling reaction I’ve seen in my 41 years on earth.”

The clip was even shown on this week’s episode of Raw as the story between Rock, Reigns and their rivals continued, with Johnson insincerely adding the girl’s sadness ‘broke his heart.’

A tag team match between the foursome headlines the first night of WrestleMania XL this Saturday, before Sunday sees Rhodes challenge Reigns for the Undisputed Universal Championship.
