Former Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has gone full ‘beast mode’ as he showed off his bulked-up physique on social media.

During his playing days, Ozil was hardly recognised for his strength or his power and was known for his creativity as an attacking midfielder.

Throughout his career at Arsenal and Real Madrid, the former Germany international would lay up his teammates for hundreds of goals while chipping in with the odd strike himself, almost always aesthetically pleasing on the eye.

But since hanging up his boots, Ozil has gone all out in the gym and it has reaped some major rewards.

Showing off his new physique on social media, the 35-year-old posted to his Instagram story.

Dressed almost in military fashion, fans might be shocked to see the size of Ozil’s guns nowadays.

In a short clip of him lifting weights, the former playmaker was not messing around as his muscles bulged.

Ozil might have been criticised for his lack of work rate during his time at the Emirates.

But the German could make his critics eat those words now – literally – while fans have shown their support on several posts of his on Instagram broadcasting his body transformation.

One fan replied on a recent post: “Bro about to join UFC.”

Ozil retired in March 2023 after citing multiple injuries that affected his playing time while at Istanbul Basaksehir.

He managed just four appearances for the Turkish club having joined them the summer previously after failing to impress at Fenerbahce.

While injuries might have affected his performances on the pitch late into his career, there is no denying that in his pomp there were not many better than Ozil.

He spent eight years in north London but the midfielder might have been at his best while at Real Madrid where he partnered Cristiano Ronaldo in one of their most deadly partnerships.

In three seasons at the Bernabeu, he provided Ronaldo with 27 assists – only Karim Benzema managed more to the Portuguese superstar at Madrid (31 assists in ten seasons).
