Arsenal have the opportunity to climb level on points with the defending Premier League champions Manchester City, who currently sit second in the table, should the Gunners earn victory against Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.
Mikel Arteta’s side currently sit fourth in the table having lost their last three matches in all competitions and have won just one of their last seven games.
The Gunners are level on points with their north London rivals Tottenham, who picked up a draw last week, with only goal difference separating Arsenal from slipping out of the top four for the first since September, having led the league just over three weeks ago.
Defeats to Liverpool, Fulham and West Ham have seen the north London side drop out of the FA Cup and fall out of reach of top spot, and they’ll be hoping it’s third time lucky in Premier League London derbies this weekend as they bid to get back to winning ways.
Crystal Palace have also been in a barren run of form of late but did manage to earn their first win in nine Premier League matches in their last outing as they got the better of Brentford in another London derby, winning 3-1.
The victory lifted Roy Hodgson’s men up to 14th in the table, now five points clear of the bottom three, though have dropped out of the FA Cup at the third round stage since after losing 1-0 at Everton on Wednesday night after a 0-0 draw in the first game.
Only Burnley and Sheffield United have scored fewer goals than the Eagles this season, who are also winless in their last five matches away from Selhurst Park ahead of their trip across the capital to the Emirates on Saturday afternoon.
Arsenal have won their last three matches against the Eagles, losing just one of the last nine, while Hodgson is yet to beat Arteta in five previous managerial meetings.
