Tom Aspinall sent a message to Jon Jones after becoming the interim UFC heavyweight champion on Saturday night in New York.
The British star knocked out Sergei Pavlovich just one minute and nine seconds in the first round of their fight at Madison Square Garden.
He became just the third Brit to ever win a UFC belt, following in the footsteps of Michael Bisping and Leon Edwards.
Aspinall was fighting for the interim title after Jon Jones’ clash with Stipe Micoic was cancelled due to an injury for Bones.
The current heavyweight champion sent his congratulations to the 30-year-old on social media.
Jones wrote: “Tom congratulations on the interim heavyweight championship belt! That was an awesome performance!”
Aspinall responded to the praise from Jones with a message.
In his post-fight press conference, he said: “I’ve seen Jon talking nice stuff about me on a podcast as well, it’s really nice.
“Obviously it’s always nice to hear nice things about you, but from someone like that who I massively look up to even more so.
“Thank you, Jon, and just give me the opportunity. Let me do it, give me my dream fight.
“I’ve just achieved my dream now, but give me my dream fight.
“Let me fight for my legacy now, please.”
