“I appreciate Matt’s hard work and dedication, and I wish him the best moving forward in his career,” Tomlin wrote.
Canada became the face of Pittsburgh’s offensive struggles over the course of the 2023 season, culminating in Sunday’s 13–10 loss to the Browns. With 15 total touchdowns on the season, the Steelers have the second-worst mark in the NFL, tied with the Titans and Patriots and ahead of only the Jets (10).
The team is in the bottom five in the NFL in points, yards and passing yards per game, and has been outgained in every game so far this season. Even so, at 6–4, they remain in the heart of the playoff race, especially with major injuries at quarterback to the division rival Bengals and Browns.
According to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan and running backs coach Eddie Faulkner will work together in the vacant coordinator role.
Sullivan, 56, has had a host of NFL jobs dating back to 2002, including offensive coordinator stints with the Buccaneers (2012 to ’13) and GIants (’16 to ’17).
Faulkner, who briefly played with the Steelers in 2001, has been the club’s running backs coach since ’19.
Pittsburgh will travel to Cincinnati on Sunday to take on the Bengals at 1 p.m. ET.
