Leeds fans mock Man United and Ten Hag and Old Trafford with new chant

Published:

Leeds United fans couldn’t resist taking aim at their arch rivals Manchester United as they secured a huge win in the Championship promotion race.

The Yorkshire club beat runaway leaders Leicester City 1-0 on Friday night, and the away supporters were on form at the King Power Stadium as they came up with a chant poking fun at the Red Devils, their manager and their ‘crumbling’ stadium.

Old Trafford is not the Theatre of Dreams it once was. A fortress in Sir Alex Ferguson’s prime, United’s famous home has now lost its fear and intimidation factor and fans are complaining the club has allowed it to become a relic of a past era compared to their rivals.

Like all old grounds, Old Trafford has its charm, but there is a feeling the facilities are dated, tired and in need of a much-needed revamp.

Concourses are small, the food and drink options are lacking and much has been made over the rusty, leaking roof – that has even provoked a reaction from United legend Gary Neville.

Travelling Man United fans now visit their rivals with looks of envy, with Man City and Liverpool ploughing millions into modernising the Etihad and Anfield, while Arsenal and Tottenham have modern footballing cathedrals to call home.

And Leeds supporters couldn’t resist poking fun at their historic rivals’ current plight with a hilarious chant during their victory in Leicester.

Fans during the game were heard chanting: “Old Trafford is falling down, Ten Hag is a f***ing clown, Glazers staying ten more years, Leeds United on the beers!”

The Elland Road faithful aren’t the only ones enjoying Man United’s slide from title-winning juggernauts to domestic and European also-rans.

Former Liverpool midfielder and boyhood Reds fan Danny Murphy failed to hide his delight when asked about the Red Devils’ current troubles under Ten Hag.

He, of course, had to deal with their past dominance first-hand, having been a Liverpool player from 1997 to 2004 when United were the undisputed giants of English football.

Fergie’s United won the Premier League title in four of Murphy’s seven seasons at Anfield, and he now admits he’s loving watching them fail.

When asked on White and Jordan if it gives him any pleasure to talk about how poor Erik ten Hag’s side are, Murphy simply said: “Yeah, it does!

“It does, because when I was playing as a young player, growing up trying to compete with the best team on the planet, the best team was Man United. This dominance they had, if that carried on we’d all be in a bad place.

“I like to see a competitive Premier League, and Manchester United being competitive adds to that, but if anyone was to fail, yeah, I have to admit, I like it being them.”
