Manchester United’s draw at Crystal Palace was momentarily stopped when a fan ran onto the pitch to take a selfie with Casemiro.

The fan invaded the pitch in the 56th minute at Selhurst Park before making a beeline for the Brazilian midfielder.

After the picture was taken the fan walked towards the touchline where stewards then ushered him away.

The response of the security was criticised by talkSPORT’s Joe Shennan, who said on commentary: “Where’s the security and where are the stewards? Only now do they run on.

“My goodness me, that sort of thing is totally unacceptable… he shouldn’t come back to Selhurst Park.

“He was allowed to run from the far side across to Casemiro, he took a selfie with Casemiro, I’ve never seen anything like it before.

“It seemed like the security team was about a minute behind everyone else. The lack of reaction was appalling and goodness knows what could’ve happened to Casemiro in a different situation… that cannot happen.”

Dean Ashton added: “It’s embarrassing, absolutely embarrassing. You could see straight away that the supporter was on the pitch, where were the stewards? That’s ridiculous.

“That could’ve been so dangerous – Casemiro actually put his arm around the guy for the selfie. It’s ridiculous.”

At the time Man United were 1-0 up thanks to Bruno Fernandes’ goal in the 43rd minute but the Red Devils were forced to settle for a point as Michael Olise fired in a brilliant free-kick in stoppage-time.

Next up for Man United is a trip to Premier League leaders Arsenal, and they’ll be forced to do it without Casemiro, who picked up a yellow card – his fifth of the season – on 80 minutes and is thus suspended for Sunday’s clash.
