Cesc Fabregas has stepped foot into the world of senior management by being named as the interim boss at Serie B side Como.
The former Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea midfielder called an end to his playing days in July following an illustrious career.
Fabregas signed for his final club Como in August 2022 and played one season for them before announcing his retirement.
He then took on the role as the club’s head coach for their U19 and B sides, while also becoming part-owner along with Thierry Henry.
After parting ways with Moreno Longo at the weekend, Como have announced that Fabregas will take charge on an interim basis.
In a statement, the club said: “After several months of strategic planning, the Como 1907 board decided that dynamic change was in the club’s best interest.
“Longo joined Como in September 2022 and helped the team avoid relegation, finishing in 13th place last season. Cesc Fabregas, who currently coaches the Primavera del Como 1907, will have his first training session on Wednesday morning.”
Mirwan Suwarso, an official representative of Como’s ownership group, added: “We thank Moreno Longo for his hard work and dedication, especially for managing the team after a difficult period last season.
“However, we want to embark on a new path which we hope will give greater emotions and fun to the Como fans and beyond.
“We hope to be able to make a new appointment for the coaching role in the near future. We thank the fans for their understanding and unwavering loyalty and support. As always, Forza Como.”

Fabregas will take the reins at a Como side who sit 6th in Serie B, the second tier of Italian football.
It will be his first senior job in management following a professional career that saw him make 737 appearances across five clubs.
The Spaniard, who won the World Cup in 2010, had a long spell in the Barcelona academy before signing for Arsenal in 2003.
After eights seasons in north London in which he made 303 appearances and won the FA Cup, he returned to the Catalan giants for three years, won La Liga and signed for Chelsea in 2014.
He won two Premier League titles at Stamford Bridge and left in 2019 for Monaco, with the 36-year-old finally joining Como last August.
